Millions of men and women have heard or read about the unique Fellowship called
Alcoholics Anonymous since its founding in 1935. Of these, more than 2,000,000
now call themselves members. People who once drank to excess, they finally
acknowledged that they could not handle alcohol, and now live a new way of life
without it.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their
experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common
problem and help others recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership
is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are
self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect,
denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in
any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is
to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
Literature and Accessories at RACO
Today, as in the early days of Alcoholics Anonymous, the A.A. message of recovery
from alcoholism is carried by one alcoholic talking to another. However, since the
publication of the first edition of the Big Book in 1939, literature has played
an important role in spreading the A.A. message and imparting information about the
A.A. Twelve Step program of recovery. The Racine Area Central Office has a huge
assortment of literature available, including all of the conference-approved
literature, a large assortment of other recovery-related literature, and an
assortment of recovery accessories.
